Ontario will help pay for this. Most owners have no idea.

Two governments now co-fund small-business AI adoption — Ontario through matched grants, Ottawa through a $500M loan-plus-advisory program. We navigate these programs for clients as part of every engagement. Verified against official program pages, June 2026.

Two myths to clear up: CDAP — the federal $15K digital adoption program everyone remembers — closed in 2024 and has no successor. And the rumoured "20% AI tax credit for small business" was never enacted. If someone is selling you either one, walk away. The programs above are real, current, and verified.

Questions owners actually ask

Can the DMAP grant really pay for an AI adoption plan?

Yes. DMAP matches up to $15,000 (50% of costs) for a digital modernization and adoption plan developed with an approved consultant, and AI adoption fits squarely within it. The program is run by the Ontario Centre of Innovation's Digital Competence Centre and was topped up with $5M in Ontario's 2026 budget. It has been oversubscribed, so timing matters.

Is CDAP still available?

No. The federal Canada Digital Adoption Program closed to new applicants in 2024 and was fully wound down in 2025, with no successor announced. Ontario's DMAP is the living equivalent for Ontario businesses.

What is BDC LIFT?

A $500-million Business Development Bank of Canada initiative launched April 2026: loans from $25K to $5M paired with mandatory AI advisory planning, aimed at getting 1,000+ Canadian SMEs 'off the AI sidelines.' The AI stream requires roughly $1M in annual revenue.

Do you charge for the eligibility check?

No. It takes 15 minutes, and if a program fits, navigating the application becomes part of the engagement.
